OHIO YOUNG DEMOCRATS’ RUN2009 CANDIDATES CAPTURE VICTORY IN KEY RACES
The Ohio Young Democrats’ Run2009 candidates capped a challenging campaign season with an impressive showing in Tuesday’s election.
Four Run2009 candidates secured victories in their races, including A.J. Smith in Middletown City Council's 2nd Ward, Amanda Armstrong in Medina Educational Service Center's Governing Board contest, Nicole Daily Jones on North Olmsted City Council and John Landers on Boardman's School Board.
Smith says the support of young Ohioans was vital to his campaign's success.
“It was through the help of OYD, area labor groups and local progressive movements that we were able to do it,” Smith said. “I will represent my constituents, but I will also represent young Democrats from all over the state.”
Providing opportunities for Ohio's youth was an important campaign aim for both Landers and Armstrong.
“I really want to thank the residents of Boardman,” said Landers. “I'm looking forward to getting to work and bringing a fresh perspective to the Boardman School Board.”
“I wanted to help provide educational resources for our young people to pursue the high-tech jobs of the future,” said Armstrong. “That will help us keep our talented young people in Ohio.”
Run2009 is a unique initiative sponsored by the Ohio Young Democrats to encourage and support young Ohioans seeking elected office. OYD provides a mentorship program, financial support and access to a statewide network of passionate, engaged Democrats working to make a difference in Ohio.
“Encouraging young Democrats to make a difference in their communities is central to OYD's mission,” said OYD President Sarah Saccany. “We are very proud of our candidates' performance, and we look forward to the leadership they will provide in the future.”
